I worked with these types 37 years, doing core samples on construction sites, regarding soil compaction, anchoring heavy equipment etc to comply with Seismic requirements in many states, with CA being the most stringent due to Zone 4 levels.
The Bassett Army Hospital in Faibanks was one of my projects, which if I remember correct was Zone 3.
Things like trenching and backfill when underground electrical conduits, H20 & Gas pipes and sewer lines were involved.. They would do calculations for depth, concrete incasing and soil back fill and compaction, then retest to make sure it was done correctly, then give the stamp of approval to the architect. There is simply no room for error.
Totally different than the mining industry but familar with the strict standards state by state.
