a crash is certainly a possibility, but i think the treasury and the fed will move heaven and earth to keep that from happening. my opinion at present is to avoid the broad stock market.

there is an old saying that before the roof falls in, we'll see cracks in the plaster. we've seen some really big cracks in the past few weeks. some of the largest companies have gone out of business, and there are more to follow.

short-term cash is a good place to be, now that the government has guaranteed all of the money market funds. i think gold and silver will be even better, and well-funded mining companies are a bargain at these levels.

whether or not the stock market crashes in nominal terms is anyone's guess at this point. the government may be able to create enough money and credit to prop up the major stock averages at or near the present levels, but even if they do, this will result in a loss of purchasing power due to inflation every year.
