Goldcliff Resource Corporation (TSX-V: GCN, U.S. GCFFF) mentioned the following in a release this morning…
Major Trends in Gold Exploration
· Junior exploration companies have discovered a higher percentage of new gold deposits than have major producers, as new gold discoveries by major producers have dropped dramatically in the past 10 years.
· Fewer discoveries of gold deposits are being made. In fact, new discoveries have been trending downward since the 1980’s. The gold industry is primarily being sustained by maturing mines discovered many years ago.
· The average grade of gold discovered is declining. Gold grades dropped by more than 50% from 1980 to 2007. (The grade of gold is measured by the # of ounces of gold contained in a ton of earth.)
· Approximately 70% of the new gold discovered in the past 10 years is situated in countries with less stable governments.
· The cost of discovering new gold deposits is increasing, at the same time the rate of discovering new gold deposits within the traditional gold mining areas is decreasing.
Simple economics indicate that these gold exploration trends should result in significantly higher gold prices…
