I would lean towards someone having to come up with money very quickly- maybe a margin call. They'll usually sell their "winners" because it's psychologically harder to lock in losses on a down stock. Wouldn't rule out a short, though.
Another possibility is someone heard something and wanted to get out before tomorrow. With so many on this board evidently well aware of what's going on, though, I doubt it.
