TORONTO - The founder of Scorpio Mining Corp. (TSX:SPM.TO - News) is stepping in as interim CEO and president to fill a vacancy created by the departure of Parviz Farsangi, who has resigned to pursue other career opportunities.
Scorpio founder Peter Hawley, who has held the CEO's job previously, is also chairman of the company's board of directors. Ewan Mason will fill in as chairman while Hawley performs the executive duties, the company announced Friday.
The company's board of directors has begun searching for a new CEO.
Scorpio Mining says Hawley has extensive experience in the industry and has worked as a consulting geologist to a large number of mining companies. He will continue his current position as president and CEO of Scorpio Gold Corp..
Scorpio Mining is a silver producer operating in Mexico. The company owns the Nuestra Senora Mine and plant in the Cosala District of Sinaloa State, Mexico.
