The big advantage is that your savings are not eroded away due to inflation and in fact because grams of gold are a real assett you do not lose your purchasing power.

You have to pay storage which is paid in grams and there's also a 3.19% transaction fee for buying, selling and swapping for other PMs. I like it for playing the gold/silver ratio and settling trades in other currencies.
