But in this case, i don't think the CEO did anything wrong - it's just that someone else mis-quoted him AS IF he had promised that, in effect "putting words" in his mouth, when he didn't really say that.
And then, many of us took that erroneous info on faith, referencing it as a promise, which it was when phrased the way that it was phrased here. That's "as a promise", defined as:
- a declaration that one will do or refrain from doing something specified
(from the merriam-webster dictionary)
So, error got piled upon error. But it doesn't look like Mr. Pirie himself was at fault in this at all. And that' pretty good news for us, isn't it?
