Hinge Mine, Moving from the Past to the Future (Thurday 3:00pm)
J. Hunter (San Gold Corporation)
This paper provides an update on the mining activities that San Gold is undertaking in the Bissett, Manitoba mining district. The Hinge zone was discovered in 2007. This discovery arrived soon after the discovery of the Cartwright and SG1 deposits. While Cartwright and SG1 are notable deposits in their own right, the near-surface, high-grade ore sampled at the Hinge zone flagged it as the clear target region to develop as San Gold's second mining unit. Initial development on the Hinge zone commenced in 2008. A short time later, following a successful bulk sampling campaign, San Gold applied for and received New Mines Status for the Hinge Mine. Overviews of the technical, logistical, and permitting issues are presented in bringing this new mine into production. In addition an update of new expansion activities into the 007 zone and other near surface targets are presented.
Old Meets New as San Gold Develops the Rice Lake Gold Belt (Friday 3:20pm)
D. Ginn (San Gold Corporation)
San Gold Corporation, Manitoba’s only primary gold producer has experienced tremendous growth and change over the past two years with the discovery of new gold deposits in previously unexplored territory nearby its current operations. Dale Ginn, CEO will outline how the company is now approaching its exploration of the area as a large interconnected single gold system rather than a collection of distinct individual deposits. Current mine infrastructure allows the company to explore and develop the new finds at depth, while their land position allows for extensive exploration and access from surface. The current economic environment, together with San Gold’s strong financial position, technical and people strengths are allowing for the Rice Lake Gold Belt to emerge as one of Canada’s major producing mineral belts.
