The question now becomes, “How much is there?” In San Gold’s opinion, the RL East structure should have a strike of at least 150 meters and a down dip length of over 600 meters, based on current drilling and characteristics of veins within the Rice Lake mine. They also suspect that the RL East vein system could be the down dip extension of the 007 vein. Archaean mesothermal load deposits typically extend to great depths, so this is a fair assumption. If that is the case, the potential exists for over 1,000 meters of high grade mineralization along the 007-RL East vein structure alone. It is way too early to know the final grade and tonnage of this structure, but if continuity can be established between 007 and RL East the potential for a few million ounces of high grade ore exists.
San Gold is getting a handle on the important controls to mineralization within the camp. This is clearly evidenced by the regularity with which they are finding new high grade veins. If, and this is a big if, these high grade shoots can be traced down dip for 1,000 to 2,000 meters and repeated along strike, there is room for Rice Lake to become a significant high grade district: a mine camp that is too big for the current mine plan, and maybe San Gold.
San Gold is continuing to drill the RL East and 007 structures. They are also advancing a ramp into the 007 structure that should be into ore by late May. Testing the gap between 007 and RL East requires pushing out tunnels from higher in the Rice Lake mine. This should happen over the summer and into the fall.
