Does not a weaker dollar help a country get out of a recession? Goods are cheaper for other countries to buy. Increase your manufacturing base? Why would the US want a strong dollar? So their citizens can buy more stuff? How's that working for them so far?
What makes you thinh it's the US that wants a strong dollar? The rest of the world has been devaluing their currency relative to the dollar to make their goods and services more 'affordable' in the biggest market in the world. Now that they have a pile of US $'s, do you really think they want to see them devalued?
