What would happen and would it not be possible that Platinum becomes the new hedge of choice for currency.?

I hope not but as times have changed it appears platinum is valued much higher so why not use platinum.

Who or why determines what can be used. It seems that there is no particular reason why gold should be a hedge. What would happen if it was going to stop being used as a hedge and used solely for jewelry.

That is why I am very careful since the director of NRCAN and I had a chat about this topic. He planted this thought in my head and it will not go away. I replied to him that this probably will not happen in my lifetime but he said it could and to be cautious going forward.

Why would he tell me this. Does he know something that we don't?
