"Guyana has long been a prolific alluvial gold producer. Until now, most of this production has come from artisanal miners employing no formal exploration and only crude gravity recovery processes. According to Mr. Tony Shields, Executive Director of the Guyana Gold and Diamond Miners Association, the Guyana Gold Board has recorded official production of 78,000 tr oz of gold for the period January through April, 2009 [as reported by Stabroek News, June 7, 2009 issue]. This entire quantity was produced by small scale alluvial operations, most of which produce at the rate of just a few hundred cubic meters per day, and enjoy gold recoveries of less than 50% of contained gold. The Company seeks to emulate this successful model by employing standard exploration practices and well proven process technology to exploit the alluvial potential on its property holdings concurrently with its ongoing hard-rock exploration program."
