The following excerpts are from an article published in the Edmonton Journal on 2/18/22:

"A Calgary-developed COVID-19 treatment is taking a step toward approval and mass production as it will begin clinical trials locally and internationally as early as next week.

The local trial is working with clinics in Brazil as there are a higher number of COVID-19 patients in that country than there currently are in Canada. He said he (DM) expects to expand the trial shortly into Toronto and he hopes to have his application for approval to Health Canada by June.

The drug can start to work within 12 hours, with patients taking two pills a day for anywhere between seven and 28 days.

Alberta currently offers two outpatient treatments for COVID-19: Paxlovid, an antiviral pill, and Sotrovimab, a treatment administered through infusion. Both treatments are offered to certain Albertans, including older, unvaccinated individuals as well as those at a higher risk for severe outcomes.  To be most effective, Paxlovid must be taken within five days of symptoms beginning."

My assumptive takes from the above article:

- Dosing has not yet begun in Edmonton- will begin next week

- Application to Health Canada by June if it works

- Apabetalone will be competing directly with Paxlovid and Sotrovimab (noted as Standard of  Care in Alberta)

- According to the drug websites, both Paxlovid(Pfizer) and Sotrovimab(EliLilly) have been given EUA use only and are still not FDA approved. Also Paxlovid can be administered for only 5 days and neither drug can be prescribed to patients requiring hospitalization for Covid-19. Paxlovid also has issues with many drugs, statins included. Sotrovimab is injected, not a pill.

If apabetalone works as described it stands a solid chance at receiving EUA and becoming standard of care to treat Covid.

This trial sets up nicely for them if my facts are correct.
