Below are the three main causes of vascular dementia. My Mother suffered from this disease caused by the third one below. It is devastating. This might be something to keep in mind as we await the CTAD presentation in December after the Stroke results from BoM. I forget who but someone posted yesterday about sub-group results on stroke not being as bad as it looked in the total population. Looking at Renal and low LDL groups showed not bad risk reduction. The problem again came down to way too small numbers to achieve any statistical support. We might end up having to look at sub-groups again for this. I hope there is some substance to DM's enthusiasm but in the view of bringing forth positives and negatives, I felt compelled to post it.
- narrowing of the small blood vessels deep inside the brain – known as subcortical vascular dementia or small vessel disease
- a stroke (where the blood supply to part of the brain is suddenly cut off, usually as the result of a blood clot) – called post-stroke dementia or single-infarct dementia
- lots of "mini strokes" that cause tiny but widespread damage to the brain – known as multi-infarct dementia
