"What I'm wondering is if its possible that BETonMACE actually could be said to have passed the Primary Endpoint?....Could the results for the Primary Endpoint likewise be proven, except by a textbook and/or academic definition?"
I 100% agree. For all we know, there might have been just a near miss on hitting statistical significance. The threshold for significance is p<0.05. Perhaps BETonMACE achieved p=0.052 or p=0.06 or something like that. Significance thresholds for determining success are somewhat arbitrary. BETonMACE could have achieved an amazing %RRR but with a p-value just missing the cut off. With our limited information available, that scenario is just as likely as a complete miss with minimal to any %RRR and very bad p-value. Here's a good reference on the history of the p<0.05 threshold.
