There are several different types of epigenetic modifications, not just that ones related to BET bromodomains binding to acetylated lysines. So apabetalone and other BET inhibitors only scratch the surface at the potential of epigenetic treatments. A lot more basic research in epigenetics is still needed, but there is a ton of potential. 

There's a place for gene editing. There's a place for epigenetic drugs. There may be some overlap, but there is also a lot of non-overlap. Both technologies are important and both have a future.
