Narmac,
Atherosclerosis plaques are a totally different animal than Alzheimer's/central nervous system (CNS) plaques. Reverse cholesterol transport (RCT) hasn't really been established to play a role in Alzheimer's/CNS plaque biology. Not that apo-AI/HDL aren't important to Alzheimer's/CNS plaques, just not necessarily through RCT. Here's a review by Cheryl Wellington on the relationship of HDL/apo-AI to Alzheimer's, including a shout out to RVX-208 (though mistakenly written a few times as RVS-208).
