That is not a naive question, it is a great question. I am of the opinion that the use of mineral oil padded the REDUCE-IT results and that if Amarin had used a more biologically relevant and inert control oil as placebo that their observed risk reduction and NNT value elicited by Vascepa would be less impressive.
