Yes, I’ve used these drugs to lower potassium levels on innumerable occasions.

Generally, we just use the old standby Kayexalate for a short course. It is important to try to identify causes for the hyperkalemia (new meds, new AKI, constipation, diet etc).

Then, we try to elimate those causes and move forward.

Some patients with late stage CKD do end up on chronic potassium resins.

All That being said, Apabetalone is playing on an entirely different field.
