Nice find San Fran. Very interesting. It was previously known that Lone Star tick bites can lead to immune response to alpha-gal and lead to a red meat allergy. NPR had a great story on it last month. This new report that patients with elevated IgE to alpha-gal show increased and less stable atherosclerotic plaques is really interesting. These plaque size and stability measurements were done with intravascular ultrasound (IVUS), the same technique used in the ASSURE trial. As Tada mentioned, it would be great if Resverlogix could look at apabetalone responses in those patients in ASSURE (and BETonMACE) with and without the elevated alpha-gal IgE.
