Message: Alkaline Phosphatase and Alzheimer's Disease

Dr. Kam Kalantar-Zadeh was highlighting these two papers in the twitter-verse earlier. Apabetalone decreases plasma ALP, increases plasma amyloid beta 40, decreases inflammation and increases plasma apoAI/HDL. All consistent with apabetalone being preventative for Alzheimer's disease and dementia.

Plasma alkaline phosphatase is elevated in Alzheimer's disease and inversely correlates with cognitive function

Plasma alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity is increased in patients with mild cognitive impairment and increased even more in Alzheimer's Disease. ALP inversely correlates with cognitive function regardless of diagnostic status.

Serum alkaline phosphatase is related to cognitive impairment in patients with subcortical ischemic vascular disease

ALP levels were higher in the vascular-dementia than in the controls. The risk of cognitive impairments increased by 57% per unit of ALP change. Serum ALP is related to cognitive impairment in patients with subcortical ischemic vascular
