There was a special supplement in the Globe and Mail on Nov 4th titled Diabetes Awareness Month. Articles and ads covered;
There was an article by a University of Calgary immunologist Dr Pere Santamaria about a potential to revolutionize treatment for people with type 1 diabetes and other autoimmune diseases. During his research to uncover the processes that cause the immune system to turn on itself to cause diseases like type 1 diabetes his team was using nano particles to do imaging of white blood cell processes. The research lead to the discovery of a novel class of powerful drugs. The next phase is to test these drugs in people. His discovery came about (as often is the case in science) through serendipidy when they discovered that the nano particles they were using for imaging the various white blood cells actually had therapeutic value. He did not give a timeline for human testing.
I did not see any evidence of participation by RVX. It seems to me like a lost opportunity for RVX to have talked about their phase 3 trials re CVD and also type 2 diabetes.
Anyway, the RVX PR/IR people I guess are focused on other audiences. Too bad. I guess New Orleans, Berlin and Anaheim are more exotic places for Don to visit rather than preping an article for "Diabetes Month".
