SanFran, I regularly follow China in the press.
One difference, among many, between European nations, USA, Canada (well established democracies) is that the Chinese are a strategic country with that strategy being created by the vast communist party. This in North American eyes may seem like a very flawed system dragged down by bureaucracy and this may be partly true. And yet many billionaires have been created in China in large part by being successful producers of American products like Apple, garments, cell phones, electronics, etc. They are an educated country academically having been trained in the USA, Europe, England, South Africa, etc. They now have their road and railroad project being built to tie together the asian countries through to Africa. They are brilliant at copying successful products and patents.
They have been aggressive acquisitors throughout the world and they are buying intellectual properties that give them strategic advantages. For example I had shares in a Canadian founded company called Westcast Industries. It was founded by a Mr Levan many years ago and they became the largest producer of exhaust manifolds for cars and small trucks in the world. Mr Levan died in 2003 and the share price fell gradually from $44 Cdn to$7. The Levan family stated they could not keep up with the required capital investments and innovation needed. A Chinese company with gov't funding jumped in and bought it.
One of the Chinese goals is to surpass the American and EU economies and I believe they are headed the right direction. I believe their current focus is to balance their economy by fostering the consumer side of the economy.
Anyway, apologies for the diversion.
I think your hypothesis has merit. They've kicked the tires and are probably testing apabetalone and may be prepared to copy it? (pure speculation). My understanding is that Hepalink, while being the largest producer of halperin in the world is not that large of a company. And while I orginally thought they were a down stream seller I believe what they actually do is provide the drug for large BP brands.
They have an American divison. Apebetalone could become part of this???
The question is if Hepalink is an option why is it taking so long...they are insiders so do they really need to wait for FA????? You can bet they are testing this compound in their labs.
Personally I'd like to see another partner come in with a regional deal and complementary science.
Anyway, good musings SF.
Eastern/KD have drawn their time line in the sand. This either creates a sense of urgency for a suitor or it compromises Don's negotiating power. It sort of says to me that KD has become skeptical.
It is do or die time Don! Pull the rabbit out of the soon.
