Ron White is one of the comedians on the Redneck Comedy tour, from the first incarnation of a quartet that included Foxworthy (you might be a redneck) Bill Ingvoll (here's your sign) and Larry the cable idiot (git 'er done).

Thinking about the games the market plays to try and spur either fear or greed got me to thinking about a routine Ron White did about flying on one of those tiny communter planes between Beaumont and Houston Texas....flying because his agent "doesn't own a globe"!  The plane is so small its powered by a rubber band....thrrrrrp, and moves at half the speed of smell.  A goose is flying behind the plane and the pilot is sticking his head out the window and waving at the goose yelling...."GO AROUND"!!!  

Then the plane loses oil pressure and has to go back to the Beaument hair salon, tire center and airport.  Its a twenty minute flight, "can't do it with this equipment".  Ron's been drinking since the morning so he doesn't care....the kid next to him is losing his mind, "guess he had a lot to live for".  Ron though...he doesn't care:  "Take her down good, I don't want to limp away from this piece of garbage".  When the kid asks how far they'll get if the engines fail and Ron says: "All the way to the scene of the crash, which is a good thing cuz that's where we're heading....I bet we beat the paramedics there by half an hour".

The way the market tries to scare ya....I think you have to have an attitude like Ron White in his comedic little bit if you want to have success.  Its that "history favors the bold" old bromide.  Its still risky of course, because the engine might genuinely fail....but if that is a scary thought maybe its time to think about not flying.  

I've seen the reverse as well....when the market tries to get you excited.  Probably one of my faves is the delayed fill...its one that I fell for many years back.  I put in a market order and it took several minutes to fill.....and I'm thing WT heck??? They're not filling my order, they don't have shares to sell....man I was naive.
