Toinv, I am not going to debate whether or not CEO's are over paid because I agree with you....they are. Some more than others. Its almost like the situation with professional athletes.
I'm a huge baseball fan, José Bautiste is my fav Blue Jay....but do I think a guy catching, throwing and hitting baseballs deserves to be earning $13,000,000 per year USD to do it? Obviously as a 5 time all star, and back to back home run champ he deserves more than some scrub...but thirteen then six zeros? No way!!! Maybe the Jays should institute a system where the best players can make say $5 million...but tie it to production. I've seen fans come up with formulas that would reward the best players with the most money.
Sound realistic? Of course not....its a competitive enviorment, and if you want to attract major league talent to your team, you have to pay major league money. I used to play, I was a pitcher/catcher/3rd baseman....I'll sign right now with the Jays and pay for $100K per year. I'd be an embarassment out there...but I'd be cheap.
You might argue that its not a fair comparison....because baseball overall is a billion dollar industry. But of course its because of those salaries that you have to pay so much to go to a game....and if you want to watch them on TV you have to be subscribed to the right cable or satellite package. Cut player salaries in half and the game would be a lot more accessible to fans.
Don is making $500K per year...and I would humbly suggest, that with his track record and experience, that its a bargain when you measure it up against the market place. I've already given a very closely comparable situation where a CEO earns three times as much...probably closer to four times given the disparity between the CDN and USD.
Actually I think we're lucky Resverlogix is Canadian based...based on my research Canadian CEOs in the biotech field are paid much less than their American cousins...a lot less.
Is $500K too much? Try paying less and you might end up with me as the CEO instead of a guy who's been successful at raising hundreds of millions of dollars, at attracting some outstanding talent, and at negotiating deals with the likes of Citi Bank, Eastern and Hepa.
