Thanks for that response Canuck44...it's nice to get another perspective on how ppl feel.

In regards to Talisman and these notices of violation, it is ridiculous. Talisman started the "leak" fixing operation on the 21st actually, and it takes a few weeks to repair...they said they were very surprised to get a violation notice so fast after, as they are working on it and it take a couple weeks. They have listened to the regulators and been doing everything perfectly.

Canbrium got one, the amount of gas from that "leak" is 100 times less than one would be considered serious and they also said the violation was given based on wrong information and they will fight it.

Right now I think the government just wants to show they are in control, nothing more. These so called "leaks" which appear in all conventional and unconventional drilling wouldn't even be acknowledged by regulators in other jurisdictions. The press isn't going to change much. They are going to nit pick and find every little detail to keep scaring the public...but I can tell you that I have seen a lot more articles that are completely upset and fed up with the activists and their agenda.

It is a good thing they are monitering wells and doing their jobs, but because there are no regulations, they report the smallest of these problems...with regulations in place, these gas vent readings wouldn't even be looked at. Frankly without these vents, it could cause a build up in homes etc...this is actually important and a positive it shows that things are working. The Leclercville well required more work, but at no time was it a danger to anything. Frankly, none of the these leaks will contaminate water and for the most part, a lot of them are probably naturally occuring gas on the surface, and not a leak from the shale gas.

Talisman made a great comment when asked if these things would affect Quebec...they just said it goes to show how little people in Quebec understand our business and what is normal and what isn't. QEC told me the same thing. Talisman also said they plan to frac two wells still, nothing has changed. Frankly, the papers have been disgusting and they will continue to act with little integrity...pure fear mongering from the start and the same again.

Here in Alberta, I've never even seen anything about a well "leak"...ever. Odds are you'll never something that insignificant talked about. If they talked about every normal leak every day, we'd probably have over a 500 articles. It's just Quebec right now has zero guidelines to go by, so they report everything. With regulations in place, I highly doubt we're going to see report of a normal leak that is equivalent to a small bbq tank. And you can't really blame the inspectors as they have no experience and they think every leak is disasterous. The companies are wondering the the heck is going on with all these violations for nothing...can't blame them because they never see them elsewhere, so it must be frustrating for them. T

Reason will prevail here. The BAPE basically only got memoirs not in favor from people saying the same things over and over, and Jason from QEC said that not one person at the BAPE could challenge the scientific evidence provided by engineers etc. BAPE traveled to many states and saw why shale worked in the majority of places and also why it didn't in NY...and frankly, in NY it wasn't all drilling...it was a few companies.

If shale gas drilling was making people sick and killing people all across the continent, then this was have been put to rest 10 years ago. It isn't. Many studies try to find something, and they can't find anything to link drilling to contamination.
