Rocket nice post.
It is amazing to see how they blow things out of proportion, but thankfully governments don't make decisions based on hungry-to-sell newspaper journalists.
That last paragraph you posted tells a lot. I highly doubt the government is changing it's position on shale gas because of normal leaks...I was told by QEC that them finding those normal leaks shows that the regulators are working and it's a good sign. QEC said those emissions are detected on most shale gas wells, and for most jurisdictions that have regulations, the readings on them are basically ignored because the gas escaping is so minimal at best. QEC's well read basically zero they said.
For Charest to say they won't compromise the health of citizens...well DUUUH?? I'm pretty sure that they would never do that ever anyway and I agree. He is basically just stating what we already know. Ms. Normandeau already mentioned how she spoke with industry and found out they were normal. It all boils down to education, nothing more. Either you learn or don't. When speaking with QEC, we had a good laugh about environmentalists and journalist. These people will pick on anything, even wind power. There objective isn't to learn or meet you half way, it's too discredit you. And also talked about clean coal supporting the bashing of shale as well.
So you can see that this opportunity is huge for Quebec, and it will happen. It is just a slight pain in the butt to deal with all these extremists!
Also, we did speak of how QEC was undervalued in their opinion ie. buyback. Also, that Talisman is waiting on the results of the 2 horizontals before deciding where to shoot seismic and drill. They said they want to be in a core area that will yeild top results, so no multi pad wells have been ruled out at all for this year.
