That is to be expected in Alberta where hydrocarbons are the bread and butter of the province .

While here in Quebec our economy is more diversified . In terms of energy Hydro electricity is the major industry and a important source of wealth , employment , development and revenues from exportation to the US .

The press here has also more diversity in views and ideology . As a whole our province is politicaly more to the left with a larger part of the population depending on government for jobs and revenues . Unemplyement is also higher here then in Alberta , although the recent crisis has greatly hurt the hydrocarbon industry in Alberta wich is the major industry there by far .

The Canadien PM Mr. Harper comes from that province ( Alberta) , his government is a center right government and he personaly comes from the left part of his party . They are more free enterprise oriented then other federal parties and they're in a good position now to face another election in due time .

The most succesfull federal party over the last 50 years has been the liberal party wich is center left but mostly center and they have a very strong base here in Quebec , although the privious time they were in power they were ousted following corruption scandals that just stopped short of the PM office Mr. Chretien at the time , who was from the old guard of the liberal party , quebec born and long time associate of former PM Mr. Trudeau .
