Message: Could make for an interesting week...QEC being deleted from the index.

Hi Welcome Gromit,

You are right an additional never helped us.

A deletion doesn't mean much as it didn't have an effect on the share price of QEC in the first place. It is large firms that buy individual stocks like Sprott and Dundee that have historically always drove QEC up. Mutual fund companies when they buy stocks to mimic the S&P TSX, say QEC in this example...it is only a small fraction as QEC barely makes up any of that index...won't even come close to the big names.

At the same time, and inclusion doesn't mean that much either until we are talking about when QEC is way up in the billions in market cap...so saying if they are still around to become a major, then it will definantely make a difference.

Shorehold SGF was deleted at the same time QEC was added back in September 2008. There stock in previous months had dropped from $4 to $1, so they were removed from the TSX. Today they trade even lower at $0.82 and have been like that for a while, but they are back on the TSX with a market cap today of $134M.

QEC today has a market cap of $334M and that's being down a lot from the highs. With good results or even speculation this thing at $3 is back to 650M market cap. So really these things change all the time and we'll be back on there again. It's temporary on how the stock is doing etc.

Actually now that I look at the list, pretty much every company that was removed from that list has been added back on, and most haven't done any better since the day it was removed. Heck even Dundee Wealth symbol DW that was deleted that day was trading at $14, today is back on the list at $25.

For me these things don't have any affect on the underlying fundementals of a company.

The way they add stocks is not based on marketcap only, but on liquidity and performance over a stretch of time. When QEC was added, it's market cap was probably the same as today if not lower, but it was highly liquid because of the first original forest news etc. Those 6 months it traded huge steady volumes etc.

So it's all somewhat important, but not really.

Here is the link to the day QEC was added...you can cross reference many big names deleted and then back on again today:
