TL;DR - Rio Tinto is hosting a high level presentation of steel decarbonization efforts next week. Will plasma torches be mentioned?
--
I have not yet been able to get the slides of the presentation given by Blair Kelly, Rio Tinto IOC, Canada, — "Plasma burners in decarbonization of iron ore pelletizing” — at the 2023 Corem Symposium in Quebec City on 26 September. If anybody has them, please share.
In the meantime, I am keeping an eye on AUSTRALIA. Next week, Rio Tinto is hosting a high profile investor site visit of their Pilbara site in Western Australia. There will be a live webcast and Q&A on October 9th, 1:45 pm, Perth time. (That is, late on October 8th / wee hours of 9th here in North America, if I understand the time zone math.)

Presenters include Simon Trott, Chief Executive, Iron Ore and an impressive array of senior managers, like Simon Farry, Head of Rio Tinto Steel, Decarbonisation.
Will our plasma torch related steel decarbonization questions be answered in Australia? We shall see if the word "plasma" occurs in the same sentence as "iron ore pelletization."
Not to raise hopes -- but IMHO this would be an ideal opportunity for RIO to say something about plasma. If they have anything to say, that is. RIO will have eyes on them -- especially as they prepare for a coming European carbon tax and ought to be signaling to European customers that they will be able to provide decarbonized steel to the EU. Perhaps someone will ask a question in the Q&A.
We shall see. GLTA.
