Bonjour PteRoy
I appreciate the response but unless you work for PYR let them answer or let signed contracts speak.
There is a large difference between a prius and hundreds of 70% efficient 2 or 3 meg torches running in a 29 to 38% thermal efficient furnaces .
Pyrogenesis has also revised spares from 38K a year per 2 meg torch stated in 2013 to 275 K per torch a year according to press release but that is another conversation.
40 % of Vale Brazil's power comes from the grid therefore directly or indirectly is coal and gas. Until Brazils entire grid is 100% renewable any new electrical loads are dirty. Coal burning is increasing worldwide due to power shortages and costs of gas etc. Although they say most coal in the west will be retired by 2035 you can bet that wont happen.
The EV you refer to are competition for the lmited power available and even by 2050 we will continue to have power shortages and substantial power will still be generated by gas and some coal. This is on top of population increases. They arent building new gas plants in Brazil just for a 5 year lifespan
Carbon tax is based on the whole company and start to finish on a process , not one furnace project. They put in a solar plant they get a credit. Reduce power consumption get a credit. They wont if they add massive electrical loads and remain with any power from the grid. The bunker to gas alone is a 30 % direct drop in CO2 with 66% NOx decrease plus 5% more efficient and no preheats etc etc . The sulphur emssions are basically eliminated versus bunker which is 2000x diesel
It appears electricity by far is the worse source of thermal energy . I welcome an actual technical response from the company to the contrary specific to the pellet furnaces not prius's or heatpumps . Or better yet a contract or press release from Vale/Client A
Places like UK can switch to electric home heating as they are above zero C . It falls apart at zero and gas must be used. Towns in Canada talking banning gas are doing so as they profit from the hydro use. Follow the money but thats another conversation.
The transition to green thermal energy at the vale pellet plants will be Natural gas then IMHO likely Hydrogen or Bio Diesel. Even with 100% green power such as Sweden it appears they are going biooil for now. Lets not forget when neighbours are burning coal its madness to use your electricity on inefficient systems. Sell them green power at profits so we can all breathe.
Brazil continues to have power shortages and still importing I believe. Europe is a complete disaster with massive increases in electrical costs and use of coal .
We can argue till blue but the proof will be in the pudding and Vale has officially stated that ALL pellet plants are going to be natural gas. I believe the transition after will then be hydrogen from natural gas or Biooil . All more efficient and requiring no major infrastructure change
The electrical conversion will be in the trucks locomotives etc which have a much higher efficieny and better payback. They also have visible improvement ending local noise and smoke
"Vale received two battery-powered 72-ton off-highway trucks, which will undergo tests in the mines of Água Limpa, in Minas Gerais, and Sorowako, in Indonesia. The first to be used by a global mining company, the vehicles do not emit CO2, as they replace diesel with electricity from renewable sources, and also reduce noise, minimizing the impacts on the communities that live around the operations. "
Of course maybe Im wrong and next week or two Vale will reverse the gas decision and purchase torches. Seems unlikely since Vale owns pellet plants with BHP who is also a gas producer and there is a 5 year signed supply contract TO START and everyones name is published amazingly.
My bet is Natural gas till 2045 of 2050 actually forever as the Hydrogen from methane converters can simply be dropped into the gasline at any point.
Of course there is now the claim this isnt Vale scheduled to be doing the SAT next week well since BHP is a gas company too and Australia is 80% fossil ....you decide
This is all IMHO and I am not now and have never directly or indirectly had a short position in PYR oor HPQ. Sad that this has to be stated .
On a side not I have been running LED in my home and office for over 13 years and absolutely believe in green but you cant simpy do it all at once so you have to be smart. A bankrupt steel mill will of course be clean , ask the shutdown in europe or bankrupting in China .
