Peter, I put it as a question to you, just to ensure you will see it, I intended it for share holders, but if you feel like adding to it...
Disclaimers:
- I am not a PYR share holder and, for reasons not related to PYR, I do not intend to buy any shares of PYR in the near future.
- I am not a PYR shorter, and I do not intend to short PYR in the near future. I have a profound dislike for shorters of junior companies.
- I am a long term HPQ share holder.
I do not know if you are usually following closely the PYR short situation. I regularly post on the HPQ forums it’s short report, and I thought the real long PYR share holders might find it helpful. I know the shorting bashers are usually pissed off when I post it for HPQ, so expect them to react, but do not be fooled, take the time to understand the data and make your own opinion. I will post remarks to explain the report, but I will not give my opinion since I’m not a share holder, and I believe in people getting informed and educated, in order not to be manipulated.
I took the data related to PYR directly from the IIROC website and I plugged it in the same type of spreadsheet I have built for my HPQ short report. You’ll find bellow what was available on the IIROC website as of today.
If you want to read about how IIROC short sales statistics works, or look at the data directly from IIROC instead of from my report, you’ll find it here Short Sale Trading Statistics and Reports | IIROC
The following is taken from that website, and I put it here because I think it is relevant to understand their reporting procedure.
- The Short Sale Trading Statistics Summary Report prepared by IIROC shows the aggregate proportion of short selling in the total trading activity of a particular security, based on data for trades marked “short sale” supplied to IIROC by each marketplace monitored by IIROC. The report is produced twice monthly: (i) for the period from the first to the 15th of each month, and (ii) for the 16th to the end of each month.
- The Consolidated Short Position Report shows the aggregate short positions of all listed and quoted securities based on data submitted to IIROC. We produce this report as of the 15th and the last day of each month.
The report indicates the security name, symbol, listing exchange, the aggregate number of shares short, and the net change in the number of shares short measured against the prior report of each listed or quoted security.
Here are a few remarks on the PYR short report that you will find below.
- In the consolidated columns at the right hand side of the report, you will notice that from the beginning of September 2021 to the end of August 2022, the shorters have increased their long terms shorts position around 70% of the time. During that same period, they increased their position from 1 104 156 short shares then, to 3 512 090 short shares now, with a peak in their short position at 3 646 511 short shares at the consolidation of the June 15, 2022 period.
- The column with the header “ % Total Volume ”, is the percentage of the volume of short sales versus the total volume during the period. You can see that, the range since March 15, 2022 varies between 9.5% all the way up to almost 34%, with 8 periods out of 12 above 22%, this means that since March two third of the time, more than one share out of every 5 shares that are sold is a short, and it goes up to more than 1 share out of every 3 shares that are sold is a short.
