High-purity few-layer graphene from plasma pyrolysis of methane as conductive additive for LiFePO4 lithium ion battery - ScienceDirect

The few-layered graphene powders were prepared by one-step AC arc plasma pyrolysis of methane. When methane and hydrogen were mixed with carrier gas (argon) in an appropriate proportion and then passed into the plasma region, graphene can be generated instantaneously without complicated operations. By changing the ratio of methane and hydrogen, the purity and yield of graphene were optimized. The number of graphene layers prepared under the optimal conditions (H2/CH4 proportion is 1:10) was mainly 1–3, and few with 4–6 thin layers were formed by self-folding and superposition. As the cathode conductive filler of LiFePO4 battery, the as-prepared graphene makes the electrode have low impedance, high specific capacity and good rate performance. The experimental results show that graphene combined with CB can provide pathways for transportation of electrons and lithium ions even when the proportion of addition is low.
A question to Pierre Carabin:
Pierre Carabin , have you already made graphene in plasma?
