Thank you for the added clarification - I would not have posted (for fear of stepping on your toes) save for seeing another post stating the "DI was set up to allow business with SA despite Canadian trade relations" misinformation. I know on SH we speculated at great lengths as to why set up DI and the conclusion many came to and repeated was incorrect; seeing it come up again I wanted to jump on it quickly. 

I also appreciate that you spoke to the "subsidiary/non-subsidiary" issue as well and I learned something :) ,
