Barry Landen sentenced to 45 days jail

Barry Landen, a former senior executive at Agnico-Eagle Mines Ltd. was sentenced to 45 days in jail Thursday morning after being found guilty of insider trading.
The OSC pursued Mr. Landen, saying he avoided losses of $115,000 by using information about the company that had not been disclosed to the public.
Judge Rebecca Shamai handed down the sentence in the Ontario Court of Justice.
Allegations that Mr. Landen had passed tips to a friend were also pursued, but he was found not guilty of those charges.
The court recessed Thursday morning and counsel will reconvene to discuss a possible fine of up to $200,000.
