Here are the results of my trip. The whole area has been intruded by a massive granite pluton and visible autocrops were all granites of varied composition and generally not very interesting. So no samples were taken. We identified the high mag anomalie located at the tip of a lake. Strong enough to cause deviation in a compass needle. We were standing on top of the anomalie, but it was covered with forest floor. With nothing visible to idicate what lay beneath. We determined that the soil layer might be a foot and a half thick at most.
The walk to the anomalie was tiring, round trip from the campsite we covered about 23km in one day all on foot trying to follow an old trappers trail used many years ago. I am planning another trip back to the area this time using quads so that we can camp at the site of the anomalie. We will then excavate an area to see what is causing the anomalie and identify the rock type. Not sure if it will be this fall, but next year for sure. I'm happy with the result as we actually managed to get to our destination and identify the anomalie.
