TORONTO, June 26 /CNW/ - Like the perpetual little brother, Canadians
have always lived in the shadow of our American neighbours. But it turns out
that while America was out conquering the world, Canada has been quietly
working away at building better lives. Now we're the ones on top: Compared to
the U.S., we work less, live longer, enjoy better health and have more sex
-and believe it or not, we're now wealthier.
For the Canada Day special issue this year, Maclean's scoured census
reports, polls, surveys, scientific studies, policy papers and consumer
databases comparing Canadians to Americans in every facet of our lives. We
found that the median Canadian family is 30 per cent wealthier than the median
American family, even though we work shorter hours and take more vacation
(16 days a year, compared to 11 for Americans). We drink more often, but live
longer and have fewer diseases. We have more sex (100 session per year,
compared to 85 for Americans), more sex partners and we are more adventuro
us in bed - yet we have fewer sexually transmitted diseases. We take more trips
outside the country, and we spend more time with family and friends.
In the end, we found that you can't judge a nation by the best it
produces, you have to judge it by the success of the average joe. And the
average joe in Canada is having a way better time. HAPPY CANADA DAY!
