Since this is a mix of units, only the author will actually know what he/she meant. For weight we have t, ton, tonne, short ton, long ton etc; a tonne is usually meant a metric tonne namely 1000 kg, short ton and long ton are also well defined, but when writing t different people means different things. It also depends on the field of specialization, in this case probably geology.
