Like many people here, I watch the Level II, and so often a major push in one direction or another is made by "Anonymous". KXL often gets its price pushed around by "Anonymous". Another example, SGX is particularly prone to this - someone (likely Cannaccord) is arbitraging the 1:10 ratio SGX/KXL and has done for a couple of years.

Brokerage houses have the option in Canada of having their trades recorded as "Anonymous" during the trading day. I called one of mine up, and they pointed out that if I am willing to pay the "over the telephone" commission rates (prohibitive for penny stocks), they are willing to put through the trades as "Anonymous".

I wondered if anyone here has a better-quality insight into this. Often we're wondering who did what to our stock price, and it would be good to have a better handle on this.

The following is not a bad writeup, credit to "MarcusAurelian" on the Aurelian board;

"Anonymous is strictly a trading tool ,Richard Nesbitt of TSX fame ,in his wisdom ,wanted brokers to have the option of hiding their trading number if they so wished ,just like NY brokers
it virtually wiped out jitney trading over night or the vast majority of jitney trading
.
So This new rule was put in to play.
it took off like wildfire,
It is the only way to trade, if I was a large client moving vast amounts of paper,I would insist all my trades be Anonymous.
like wise, if I was a principal trader ,i would have my machine keyed only in Anonymous mode
.
As for as clearing , the Anonymous broker is discovered the next day on the clearing sheets,
It is simple, just buy a board lot from a big Anonymous seller,their identification is discovered the next day on clearing settlement
But if you see Anonymous buying or selling, it may be one broker or several
thats the way it should be.if the broker and client wishes this to be the case
Most of the time, clients insist on using Anonymous on their orders to protect the fact that they cant be traced to one house in moving large amounts of stock
learn to love it,wish we could do the same .
if you trade in NY there is no broker identification ,one must ask the specialist whom did what."
