Great that ArizonaRanger got in a conversation with Brian Maher. It's worthwhile putting yourself in his shoes for a minute. As the head of a corporation you can't say anything of substance that's not already in a presss release. You may have negotiations going that would be affected by giving out too much right now. And those two considerations are just for starters as to why you can't be overly casual.
I always gauge what I hear using those terms. Imagine you're the President and you get a call. You want to share whatever good news and prospects you have - but you know you have to play by the rules, and you can't afford to tip your hand to everyone you do business with.
If someone came along to you personally and asked what was going on in your life, and you knew that whatever you said was going to be shouted from the rooftops, I'm sure you would choose your words more or less carefully.
