When a retail investor buys shares in KXL, (s)he becomes a shareholder.
Insiders don't own a couple of million shares - they own over 50% of the total outstanding shares (88 million), and control the company. This doesn't mean the don't care about me or you - it is corporate philosophy to maximise shareholder value. If you don't believe that, don't buy the shares.
