.. and now we are left holding the bag !!

Just had dinner with my dear wife of 37 years and she, out of the blue, asked me: so how are our pension plans working through all of this turmoil ? My only miserable answer was at that instant, that we middle class or slightly better, get shafted again. And when I tried to explain with good economic reasons, I got: how come, darling, you are so smart and we are so poor !!

Well, we are still smart, but somebody stole our savings !
