Lies, uncertainties, errors and stupidity

We all face these issues almost on a daily basis and we just have to learn to live with that. If I could make 10 grand just by starting a rumor I probably would do it, at least if it had no risk to me.

People make errors for many reasons, some because they are poorly trained, some because of the equipment and some because they do not care about what they are doing. In fact there are lots of poorly trained people in the business. I suspect that with the present boom in the mining industry after 20 years of tough times, there are lots of opportunists jumping on the bandwaggon. I would have prefered to have 5 excellent geologists working on a project than many times more not so good ones.

As an example of uncertainties: When we were given the following assay: 2.5m grading 515.98 g/t Au, I suspect that if 10 people repeated the process to get these numbers 8 of them would get numbers between 400 and 640 g/t, one could get 0.000? g/t and one could get 515.98 kg/t, in particular people who get paid 12 $/hr. Many people have absolutely no feel for what numbers to expect and any answer is acceptable.

People also like to talk about the good stuff and forget the not so good. What people say do not always match the data. Also lets face it, none of us are experts on all aspects of such a complex thing as evaluate the economics of a mineral claim. There are just too many issues involved. Therefore we all tend to focus on what we know, we ignore things we know we don't know, and of course we complete ignore the things we don't know we don't know.

So whats the message? I don't know but a good bottle of wine always helps
