They are drilling elsewhere because there are option payments due on the other properties. The longer a company keeps a property, the more money that they have to pay out. Often, the payments are back-loaded; meaning that the payments increase every year.

The company had figure out which ones to keep and which ones to dump. As far as a buyout goes, it will probably happen later rather than sooner.
