Volume! Many years ago (about 1960) I read a book by Nicholas Darvas (think I got the name right!) titled "How I made $2million on the Stock Market" It was my introduction to TA which I have followed ever since.
Volume was a key indicator to him. To spot winners early he daily combed the financial press for unknown companies suddenly having an increase in volume. He did not only rely on this but studied the fundamentals of the company and what it was to cause such a jump in volume. If he felt the company would dramatically change (e.g.new invention affecting millions) he would note it for the right moment, normally after a cooling off after the initial activity and the share showed signs of moving up again. He described this initial explosion of volume increase as "An old lady getting on the table to dance" He himself was a dancer.
He went on to explain triangles, saucers, trend lines, human psychology behind market patterns but volume was always very important to him. He was my early education in TA and the Stock market. My other investing interest has been in PM's. I started by investing in South African Golds in 1970, but that is another story!
KXL had it's big volume increase in Oct 2007 "She was dancing on the table"! SOMETHING BIG WAS UP. Now things have gone quiet, just wait! I have increased my investment 3x since Feb this year when I fist tested the water in KXL. I have learnt a lot on this board and I have found the posts on geology and other matters fascinating, thanks to all on this board.
