Drilling Plan for 2008 and Overall Exploration Strategy
Kodiak has planned an aggressive drilling program for 2008, focused on exploring the Golden Mile, Marino, Yellow Brick Road, Penelton and WL vein systems at the Hercules project, prospecting and drilling elsewhere in the 30 square kilometre Elmhurst Lake Intrusion and prospecting, sampling and drilling multiple exciting new targets within our extensive Beardmore-Geraldton land package. The general strategy is simple: work from the known - the Golden Mile vein system, outwards to the unknown: our new target areas - targets that have the ability to greatly expand the potential gold resources within Kodiak’s land holdings.
Drilling has already begun on the Golden Mile, with three drill rigs currently exploring this high grade vein system (please see map below). One drill is concentrating on the central Golden Mile, exploring the previously drilled high grade shoots to depth. The second drill rig has begun drilling on the southeast end of the Golden Mile where previously announced drilling intercepted 2.0 metres grading 54 gpt gold in drill hole HR07-29. The third drill rig will initially concentrate on the Marino vein system and then move to other target areas as drilling progresses. This portion of the drilling program, focused on the Golden Mile and nearby veins, will help define potential gold resources in this area and provide important geologic information to guide future drilling.
Kodiak will seek to expand potential gold resources in areas surrounding the Golden Mile in two ways: exploring the adjacent portions of the Elmhurst Lake intrusion, the host of the Golden Mile vein system, and by exploring multiple exciting new drill targets elsewhere in our 1,400 square kilometre land package in the Beardmore-Geraldton gold camp. As can be seen in the detailed map of the Golden Mile area, gold mineralized veins are associated with magnetic “highs”, areas of strong positive magnetic response (bright “warm” colours). These linear features extend from areas of known gold mineralization, like the Golden Mile, suggesting the geologic structures that host the veins are much more extensive. This is an important guide to prospecting and has been used successfully by our team in discovering new gold bearing veins in the Elmhurst Lake intrusion. The map of the Elmhurst Lake intrusion, shown below, is an area of greater than 30 square kilometres of strong gold potential containing multiple parallel structures similar to those seen on the detailed map of the Golden Mile. Each of these is a compelling target for the discovery of additional new gold bearing veins. As the 2008 field season progresses, exploration in the Elmhurst Lake intrusion will focus on these indicated structures. Prospecting teams will initially look for signs of mineralization on the ground, areas of quartz vein float or old prospect pits, and then follow up with more detailed prospecting, including mechanized trenching. Eventually some of these targets will be drill tested and could potentially lead to new gold discoveries.
Kodiak’s geologic team has been busy evaluating other target areas for several months within our extensive Beardmore-Geraldton land package (see map below). To date, over thirty high priority targets have been generated thus far and specific exploration plans are now in place to explore some of these exciting new opportunities. The sheer number and size of these targets confirms that this Greenstone belt is drastically under explored and indicates there is significant potential to expand gold resources through exploration.
All three aspects of Kodiak’s 2008 Hercules and Beardmore-Geraldton exploration program, drilling the Golden Mile and nearby veins, exploring the Elmhurst Lake intrusion and initiating exploration of our commanding land package in the Beardmore-Geraldton gold camp, will together have the strong potential to greatly expand the area of known gold mineralization and potentially identify significant new resource ounces.
