It's the end of the trading year..
profits are being locked in so I expect KXL is being sold to lock in the years profit..
I'm doing all my tax loss selling and setting up for a big chunk of capital gains profit for next year..
Capital Tax losses can be carried forward ,but capital gainscanmust be taken in the year the gains occur, which make the taxes payable the following year..
So an example ...
If I sell KXL shares today...(Dec '07) and make a capital gain ,I would pay the cap gain tax is March '08...(4 months from now)
But If I wait til Jan '08 and sell KXL and make a profit ,I don't pay the cap gains until March '09..16 months from now..so by waiting a few weeks I have a whole whack of free cash to reinvest..buy a new lollypop or what ever ,but it is more profitable to take your losses late in the year and your profits early..
IMHO..
Happy tax time KXLers..
