In June, 2010 well known gold mining expert Bob Moriarity wrote that the central Idaho gold area produced over 4 million ounces of gold mostly from placer production. He went on to say, in his professional opinion:

". . . It's pretty much axiomatic that where you have placer lode you have a lot more lode gold. . . . for every 1 ounce of placer produced there is another 20 ounces of hard rock gold waiting to be produced."
