In reference to the current drought in China:

Supplies of lithium have already been strained amid rising demand for EVs and production issues. And Woitzik notes that one of China’s top lithium producers, Sichuan Yahua Industrial Group, has shut down operations for five days and that prices for lithium are expected to rise in the near term as a result.

Still, Woitzik said that he isn’t too worried about the supply of lithium—at least for now.

“We believe that the impact will be more felt in terms of the intermediate and end products,” he said. “For lithium, the heat wave would have to last for much longer for it to create a significant impact.”

The quote above is a little contradictory when you compare the part that says "Sichuan is a key supplier of lithium, and some experts are concerned that China’s heat wave could cause prices of the silvery-white metal to soar" vs the part that says "Still, Woitzik said that he isn’t too worried about the supply of lithium—at least for now."

Previously I noted that temps for the next week in Xiamen are expected to be in excess of 100 degrees F.  Now, I am not so sure about the accuracy of that statement.

  Perhaps my reference was one published sometime in the past?  I could not retrieve that original reference to confirm.  At any rate, I did find another source of information about current temps in Xiamen and it seems to indicate temps for the next several days much lower in the 80 to 90 degree F. range.  The source page carries current events in Xiamen that are confirmed by other sources to be happening here in the middle of August, 2022, so that indicates the liklihood that the projected 80 some degrees F. prognositication for present temps in Xiamen is probably correct.  That would compare favorably against the 100+ degree F. temps that are causing such a huge problem now in Sichuan Province, including massive factory shutdowns, hydroelectric power generation problems and destruction of crops.

You can quickly see from the Province Map, linked below, that Fujian Province (home to Xiamen) is quite a ways from Sichuan Province where the drought conditions are the worst at the present time.
