Denselight post-Epic exhibition remarks

My name is Soma Sankaran, and what I’d like to do today is talk to you a little about Denselight. We’re all the way here in Singapore. And some of the things we are doing as well as how we can enable our customers through enabling a silicon photonics based solution through our DPHI technology. So Denselight is basically a Singapore based company. We were founded in the year 2000. We have our own wafer fab focusing primarily on InP, and we also have GaAs capability. The fact that we have our own InP fab allows us the flexibility to do our customization of chips. So, if customers come to us with different requirements, we are able to grow that in our fab in Singapore.

Over the past 20 years our focus has been primarily on sensing. But in the last 2-3 years our focus has been on the telecom and datacom market. In fact, we have been focusing on laser light sources for the 25G market. We have been focusing on CW lasers, high-power high-temperature lasers. We also have started talking to a number of customers on SOAs (semiconductor optical amplifiers). As well as gain chips for coherent communication and these same chips could be used for FMCW-type (frequency modulated continuous wave) of auto lidar engines. As I said we have our own wafer fab. We are Singapore based but we serve customers all over the globe. And we have a number of major customers that we are talking to in the US, China, as well as Europe.

Let me talk to you to this… one of the things that we realized is that when customers come to us especially when they are doing optical engines… silicon photonics based optical engines. There’s a big ecosystem that they need to deal with. You’ve got to talk to the silicon fab to fab out your design. Then you’ve got to talk to the different component suppliers, especially the laser light sources to get you the design that you need. Then you need to take all this and go to an assembly house that flip chips the devices and then makes sure your design is efficient for optical coupling.  So, one of the things that we’ve developed in Denselight is the entire process where we can actually take your design and go our partners, a local Singapore based silicon fab, where we can fab out your design. And we are also working with them to bond these laser chips onto the silicon photonics platform. So, we want to kind of standardize the way we do this. And we complete the backend process, which means the flip chip process. We design [garbled] to make sure there is efficient coupling of light into the waveguides. We assemble. We singulate. We test and we actually deliver the optical engines to you.

So that’s the kind of service that we are offering from our base in Singapore. So today, as I may have mentioned, customers want more for less. There’s a demand for more speed, more throughput, more sensors per unit area, but all this for less cost. And obviously faster time to market. So by coming to us and working with our silicon fab partner, we can actually shorten this. And we are kind of a one-stop shop, where we can deliver the complete solution to you.

[goodbyes]
